In adult humans participating in sports such as bodybuilding, growth hormone, known as GH (for Growth Hormone) or hGH (for Human Growth Hormone), can turn back the body’s internal clock, helping to rapidly build muscle, reduce fat and increase libido, while dramatically increasing energy levels. Researchers who have worked on the subject and athletes who have taken it (including by injection) agree. However, the use of HGH, also known as somatotropin, is not allowed in sport: it is on the regularly updated list of prohibited substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), a UNESCO body. Also on this “black list” are the fragments, releasing factors, secretagogues and growth hormone-releasing peptides.

What is human growth hormone?
The human organism naturally produces growth hormone in the pituitary gland, and, as its name suggests, it is responsible for cell growth and regeneration. Increasing muscle mass and bone density is impossible without this hormone, which also plays a major role in maintaining the health of all human tissues.
Healthy adult males typically have less than 5 nanograms per milliliter circulating in the bloodstream. Healthy women can produce about twice this amount for reproduction. Levels for both sexes peak during puberty and drop sharply after age 20.
When secreted, GH remains active in the bloodstream for a few minutes, but the liver has enough time to convert it into growth factors, the most important of which is insulin-like growth factor-1, or IGF-1, which has a host of anabolic properties.
Scientists began harvesting GH from the pituitary glands of cadavers in the 1950s, but did not synthesize the first HGH in laboratories until 1981, with its use as a performance-enhancing drug becoming popular shortly thereafter.
Approved Medical Uses
Synthetic human growth hormone was developed in 1985 and approved by the FDA (Food Drug Administration) for specific uses in children and adults. In children, HGH injections are approved to treat small stature (dwarfism) of unknown cause as well as poor growth due to a number of medical causes, including :
- Turner syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects a girl’s development;
- Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic disorder causing poor muscle tone, low levels of sex hormones and a constant feeling of hunger;
- Chronic Kidney Disease;
- HGH deficiency or insufficiency;
- Children born small for their gestational age.
In adults, GH is approved for use in the following cases:
- Short Bowel Syndrome, a condition in which nutrients are not properly absorbed due to severe bowel disease or surgical removal of a large portion of the small intestine ;
- HGH deficiency due to rare pituitary tumors or their treatment;
- Muscle disease associated with HIV/AIDS.
Misappropriation and abuse
The most common uses of GH are not approved. Some people use this hormone, along with other performance-enhancing drugs such as anabolic steroids, to strengthen their muscles and improve athletic performance.
Because the body’s HGH levels naturally decline with age, some “anti-aging experts” have speculated and claimed that GH products could reverse age-related body deterioration. But these claims, too, are unproven. The use of GH as a youth hormone is not approved. However, some people obtain injectable GH from doctors who prescribe it outside of a marketing authorization (MA) for uses for which it has not been approved and through Internet pharmacies, anti-aging clinics, and websites.
Other people do not hesitate to buy GH or products in the form of pills and sprays that claim to increase the body’s production of natural GH. The companies that market them through TV or online advertisements claim that these products are able to turn back the body’s biological clock, reduce fat, strengthen muscles, restore skin and hair tone, strengthen the immune system, normalize blood sugar levels, increase energy and improve sex life, vision and memory.
However, in the United States, the Federal Trade Commission has seen no reliable evidence to support the claim that these products have the same effects as the medical prescription of GH, which is always administered by injection. When taken orally, GH is digested by the stomach before it can be absorbed into the body.
Is it really advantageous for an athlete to take GH?
Apart from the crucial role of GH in building muscle mass, not all of its benefits are necessarily visible. It has been shown that GH slows the progression of age-related degenerative diseases, helps maintain mental acuity, increases libido and generates a general sense of well-being.
However, this beautiful gold medal has a downside! The administration of GH can lead to exactly the opposite effects; loss of muscle mass, fat gain, low energy levels, decreased sexual desire and a poor sense of well-being.
Side effects and various dangers
Possible side effects of GH use include high cholesterol, numbness and tingling of the skin, carpal tunnel syndrome, muscle and joint pain and swelling. Some experts believe that taking synthetic GH may also increase the risk of diabetes and contribute to the growth of cancerous tumours.
As for the dangers, it should be noted that taking a drug illegally carries the risk of not knowing what you are actually absorbing. Is it real GH? Is it counterfeit and potentially harmful? Who could tell? Having said that, you should avoid the black market and instead turn to a doctor who will be able to advise you.
What do the promoters of GH have to say about the dangers and probable harms?
The promoters of GH are essentially researchers and health professionals. These health professionals argue that the dangers attributed to GH are exaggerated. One of them is Dr. Eric Braverman, founder and medical director of the Path Medical Center in New York, where he focuses on brain health and promotes the use of hormone replacement therapy and dietary supplements.
In his opinion, the complications associated with the use of GH are very minimal. He explains that some people experience water retention and increased blood sugar, but even these are very rare unless they take a lot of GH. Only a few people complain of big feet or big livers – after mega doses.
For him, what is said about GH has been said about creatinine. Several years ago, “creatinine was considered by the mainstream media to be potentially dangerous. Now it is the most studied supplement in the world, and studies confirm that it is one of the safest and most effective supplements you can take,” he argues.
What is the legal and safe way to get the benefits of GH?
For athletes who want to comply with the law without giving up the benefits of GH, there is a solution: continue training (as studies have proven that trained athletes produce enough HGH without supplementation) and/or use an amino acid complex such as HGH-X2, a proven natural substitute. Admittedly, the latter does not have the same ingredients as the banned synthetic GH, and does not have a similar mode of action – in which case it would also be banned – but is approved and capable of delivering benefits that are considered to be of equal value.
Presentation of HGH-X2, the effective alternative for weight training
Developed by Crazy Bulk, HGH-X2 is a judicious complex of amino acids which, once in the body, contributes indirectly to the production of GH by the pituitary gland. This hormone is known to facilitate energy recovery after intense physical effort, and to help burn fat and build muscle mass.
Apart from pharmacies and parapharmacies, Crazy Bulk markets HGH-X2 on its website in boxes of 30 doses. This is sufficient for a use of 30 days, knowing that the daily dose is 2 capsules to be taken orally at once with a glass of water, 20 minutes before breakfast.
Price and purchase of HGH-X2
HGH-X2 is sold at prices studied on the site of its manufacturer. For the purchase of two boxes, one box is offered free of charge. This allows the product to be tested for 3 months, at the end of which each user should see the first positive results. Once the purchase amount has been paid and the order validated, the dietary supplement is prepared, shipped and delivered within 24 to 48 working hours. In rare cases, delivery can take more than two days. Note that international delivery is possible: in France, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Belgium, Switzerland or Thailand. Or elsewhere.
